We are ready to welcome you to campus with some great events and activities going on all day.  First, check out the University-wide program.  You will see that every academic unit on campus is putting on seminars, sessions, tours and lectures.

In addition to our academic overview presentation, we will be holding our big ENGINEERING EXPO.  See our program for details on what will be offered:  Micro-seminars on our Freshmen Academy Program, Overseas Programs, and Career Services along with Lab & Facility tours will show you practically every inch of the Viterbi School.

FRESHMEN – check-in as early as 9am at the steps of VKC
TRANSFERS – check-in at 10:15 at OHE

The AP reported that the U.S. Energy Department’s Pacific Northwest National Laboratory is having little luck filling positions requiring a specialized background in the emerging field of “green technology”.

This is good news for our students studying at the Viterbi School.  A career in Energy Research is just one of many paths that our students choose to pursue after graduation.  Green Industries need Environmental Engineers, Civil Engineers, and Electrical Engineers to explore new sources of energy generation and the infrastructure to support it.  Industries like Biotech have demand for Biomedical Engineers, Electrical Engineers and Mechanical Engineers.

  • Brush up on your math and science.  Enroll in classes at your local community college that will build your foundation for an engineering education. To be a competitive transfer applicant we recommend that you take at least
    • 2 semesters of Calculus (up to a minimum of Calculus II)
    • 2 semesters of Lab Based Science (Biology, Chemistry, Calculus-based Physics)

In selecting your additional science classes, try to find classes that related to the area of engineering you hope to pursue. For example, a prospective Aerospace Engineering should take courses in physics rather than biology.

On November 22, 2009 USC and the Viterbi School of Engineering will be hosting our Discover USC & Engineering Expo. This full day program will provide you and your family with an opportunity to meet staff from the Offices of Admission, Financial Aid and The Viterbi School of Engineering, in addition to current Viterbi students and faculty.

The Engineering Expo is an open house for our students, faculty and staff to showcase the numerous opportunities to get involved in the Viterbi School of Engineering.  We will host information sessions about academic services and provide tours of the labs and facilities used by our undergraduate student design teams and research projects.
